Imperium Universalis (559BC - 300AD) is a total conversion mod for Europa Universalis IV. It is set in the antiquity and starts with the reign of Cyrus II. the great in 559 BC and is playable until the year 300 AD. The mod includes many new gameplay features like food, slaves and historical features such as the rise of Zoroastrianism, Buddhism and Christianity and the rise and fall of different empires. The map is completely new and contains Europe, North Africa and Mainland Asia. Because Europa Universalis can't use BCE dates Years have been changed to AUC: Ab Urbe Condita, years from the foundation of Rome. The game thus starts on 195 AUC and ends on 1054 AUC.

Food[edit]

The food system is one of the main features of the mod, it can be deactivated at the start of each game and only works for non-tribal countries. Food is produced every summer in provinces with food trade goods, the production can be increased by buildings, event modifiers or promoting the base production of the province. The food will be consumed every three months by the state provinces and the army, provinces in a territory won't consume food. It's possible to import and export food.

Slaves[edit]
Slaves are another big feature, they are quite important for raising the development (now population) of the players country. By conquering provinces or winning battles the amount of slaves increases. Slaves will provide a permanent modifier in relation to the state's development of the country but will also trigger events which give development, money or other bonuses. Slavery can be abolished and reintroduced by decision. They can also trigger triggered modifiers if the player has too many of them, these modifiers give maluses.
Population Estates[edit]
The population estates are only available with The Cossacks DLC enabled. Each cultural sphere has their own estate if you own any of their provinces as a member of another cultural sphere, these estates will provide unique modifiers based on their influence and loyalty.
Development[edit]
The Common Sense DLC is needed for this feature.Recently, development has been replaced by a colonization system: instead of simply developing your province with monarch points, the player now sends a colonist to the wanted provinces (owned and cored). Thanks to slow growth and events, the province will eventually be colonized and will immediately adopt the player nation's religion and culture. The 'colonization' button is right next to the now useless 'develop' buttons.Normal developing will now happen through slave & random events.Base Tax, production, and manpower have been replaced by a population system: Upper Class, Middle Class, and Tribal people. These three classes give different modifiers according to their numbers. Tribal population represents the uncivilized and rural portions of your population, they do not give any monetary bonuses but give manpower, sailors, and land and naval force limit. The middle class are the skilled laborers who generate small amounts of tax income (an exact value of 0.05 per pop) and mainly improve the production of a province. The Upper Class are indifferent to the middle-class gameplay-wise, and simply give more bonuses than the Middle-Class (0.20 tax income per pop and higher positive production modifiers)
Casus Belli[edit]
A player can no longer fabricate claims in Imperium Universalis. There are now two different Casus Bellis: Border Conquest and Hegemony. The Hegemony Casus Belli will allow the player to vassalize other nations. The Border Conquest is for the direct annexation of provinces. This Casus Belli will 'always' be there, ready for use against neighboring nations. The aggressive expansion caused by the Casus Bellis is according to the military skills of the ruler.

Units[edit]
Artillery has been replaced by skirmishers (archers), and these are available from the start of the game. There are now many modifiers that reduce the infantry cavalry ratio (which means having too many cavalry units in an army may give maluses). The intent is to have historically accurate legions (with few cavalry). Besides this, the combat mechanics are the same, except that generals can have much higher skills now.

Map[edit]
The map size, in general, is the same as the Europa Universalis map (5632x2048), it was created entirely from scratch for the mod and focuses only on Europe, Asia and northern Africa, parts like the Americas, central- and South Africa, Indonesia and Oceania are cut off. It's not possible to circumnavigate the globe. There are about 3600 provinces on the map. Terrain like Savannah or glacier can't be found, instead, desert oasis and high farmlands were added as a new terrain type. The sea provinces of the Mediterranean Sea and the Atlantic Ocean are separated from the sea provinces of Asia but can be connected later in the game with the Canal of the Pharaohs in Egypt.
